LA BOHÉME
Giacomo Puccini
| Conductor | Jiří Štrunc |
| Director | Oldřich Kříž |
Operas by Giacomo Puccini belong among the foundation of repertoires of all opera stages. Most of them tell the story of a woman´s tragic fate, for which Puccini had an unusual level of understanding, and which he managed to give a very convincing dramatic portrayal.
The theme for the opera La Bohéme was found in a novel by Henri Murger “Scenes from a Bohemian life“. It takes place in the Latin quarter of Paris around the year 1830, and describes the environment and surroundings of poor artists – or Bohemians. The main storyline revolves around the love of a poor seamstress, Mimi, for the poet Rudolf. Their happiness does not last long, however, as Mimi is dying of tuberculosis.
Puccini created not only compelling melodies for the roles of the main opera characters, which come from the best traditions of Italian opera literature, but he also managed to wonderfully musically characterize the Parisian surroundings, which was also praised by the French composer, Claude Debussy.
The last production of La Bohéme was premiéred in Pilsen on 23rd March 1991. This opera is presented in its original Italian study, with Czech sub-titles.
Premiére 20th June 2009 in the Great theatre.
